kenton was born in westminster, london. he was settled right in the center of five children, with two older siblings and two younger. because of this, he sort of fell through the cracks. he didn't try very hard in school and was a very quiet child, stepping back from his more vibrant siblings.
when he was seven, his parents sabrina and thomas began wondering whether there was something wrong with kenton. he had no filter and began getting in trouble in school for saying whatever came to his mind; he began acting out and had no focus at school. his grades-- while never one hundred percent-- began to drop dangerously. it took almost a year for kenton to admit that he couldn't understand what was asked of him.
he was tested and his parents found that he had a mild learning disability involved with executive functioning. he could read perfectly fine but executive functioning made activities like planning, organizing, strategising, remembering details and managing time and space difficult. his thoughts tended to get lost and he needed a life coach for a time to assist in keeping his thoughts ordered and organised.
the move from london when he was sixteen was difficult for kenton because he left his therapist and learning specialist and was thrown into the american school system. luckily the american system was a fair bit easier than the british and so he was about on the same level as most of his peers, which made it easier to integrate.
he maintained an average gpa through high school and as much as his parents wanted him to, he didn't end up going to university, instead applying for the local police academy. he made it through the training and boot camp but within six months he had to quit, trying to find something else to do.
being a bartender was an accident. when he was 27 he didn't have a job and needed one so he went to a bartending course that lasted two weeks and got a job at a seedy bar in brooklyn. soon enough he was good enough to start working elsewhere and began looking for better gigs.
eventually he got a job as the head bartender at the kiss & fly nightclub in manhattan and moved to union square. he got a second job tending bar two nights a week at the cafe carlyle while saving money but when he was told that the kiss & fly was going to close for renovations, he began to devote his time fully to the cafe carlyle. nine months ago he was promoted to floor manager as well as the main bartender.
